Fairphone 4 to Ubuntu Touch
A quick and rough run-down of changing my Fairphone4 to run Ubuntu Touch.
Prepare
- Download Ubuntu Touch installer: https://devices.ubuntu-touch.io/device/fp4/release/noble/#installerDownload

CalyxOS to Fairphone OS (android 11)
- Unlock bootloader again
- Install Android 11
- Downloaded the factory image for FP4 and extracted it. Opened the extracted folder and right-click, then Run as program.
Yeswas case-sensitive. Ran itself from there on out. Easy. Booted into Android automatically.
Android 11 to Ubuntu Touch
Had to re-enable USB debugging.
adb devices and adb reboot bootloader
Ran the appimage of UBports installer.
It asks if you'd like Ubuntu Touch or PostmarketOS installed. I selected Ubuntu Touch and was then asked which channel I'd like; 24.04-1.x/stable. I selected wipe personal data too. It asks to reboot to bootloader and then begins downloading (and verifying) the files. Rebooted and begins its process of downloading more files whilst in UBports recovery.
Still no need to interact with the installer.
Installer asks how the install went, I selected Pass because it went smoothly.
Phone is now booting into Ubuntu Touch, it is installing system update on its first boot.
Phone reboots again and launches nicely.
I'll update or write another post about the user experience of Ubuntu Touch as I use ti a bit more. I've already run into a few problems which may be my doing and I want to check that before writing about it. It's a very different experience to Android and iOS which is taking some getting used to.
